Bass vocal range: E2 to E4
A trained bass typically sings from E2 to E4, two octaves. Most people who sing for fun use a narrower comfortable range inside that, often around F♯2 to C♯4.
How to tell if you're a bass
Voice type is mostly about where your voice sits comfortably, not the single highest note you can reach. Measure your lowest and highest easy notes; the type whose range has the closest middle is your most likely fit. Neighbouring types overlap a lot: baritone (A2–A4).
Warm-ups for basses
- Vocal warm-up for basses (F♯2–C♯4): high notes without straining
- Vocal warm-up for basses (F♯2–C♯4): singing in tune
- Choir warm-up for basses (F♯2–C♯4)
Ranges: typical ranges of trained voices (McKinney, The Diagnosis and Correction of Vocal Faults). Our range test reads E2–C6.
